Abstract

The monograph contains a general description of the sol-gel process, the prospects of using it in various fields of science and technology, including ceramic production. The issues of hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane and the physical-chemical processes occurring during hydrolysis and polycondensation of hydrolysis products as well as in heat treatment of gels, leading to the production of pure oxide powders and to the synthesis of anoxic refractory compounds are considered.

The issues of production of ultra-dispersed powders, an aluminosilicate carrier of a silver catalyst for the synthesis of methanol from sol-gel compositions are taken into consideration. Preparation of sol-gel compositions, which are used as binders in the manufacture of complex configuration products based on various fillers, their application as a precursor of the components necessary for synthesis of silicon carbide, nanoparticles and nanofibers of oxygen-free compounds and etc. are examined in details.
