Marchenko Andriy Petrovych

Born in April 6, 1951 in Staromaiorsk village, Velyka Novosilka region, Donetsk Oblast.

In 1974 graduated from Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute and gained a diploma of a mechanical engineer in the specialty «Internal Combustion Engines».

From 1974 to 1976 worked as a workshop foreman and Deputy Secretary of the Komsomol Committee of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant. From 1976 to 1980 he headed Ordzhonykydze Komsomol Committe.

Since 1980 he began working as a senior engineer at the Department of Internal Combustion Engines of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute and entered the postgraduate school.

In 1984 he defended his thesis: «Choosing the determining parameters of a combined diesel engine with a system of secondary use of heat» and obtained a Ph.D. degree in engineering.

After defending his thesis from 1984 to 1989 he worked as a junior research scientist, assistant, senior lecturer and a senior research scientist at the Department of Internal Combustion Engines at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.

From 1989 to 1992 he was working for doctor's degree at the Department of Internal Combustion Engines of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. Since 1992 he has been holding the position of Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Combustion Engines of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.

In 1994 defended his doctoral thesis «Thermodynamic bases of increasing fuel economy of transport diesel engines at the expense of recycling of waste heat».

From 1996 to 2000 — Professor of the Department of Internal Combustion Engines of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. He received the title of professor in 1998.

Since 2000 to present — Vice-rector for scientific work of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». Since 2001 — Head of the Department of Internal Combustion Engines of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.

Andriy Petrovych Marchenko — Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine (2001), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2005), Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2008), Laureate of Yaroslav the Wise Awards, Corresponding Member of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine (2010).

A. P. Marchenko is the editor-in-chief of the All-Ukrainian scientific and technical journal «Двигатели внутреннего сгорания» and a member of the editorial board of the Russian scientific journal «Известия высших учебных заведений. Машиностроение»

Scientific and practical developments made by A. P. Marchenko became the basis for the technical project of the diesel engine D-80. His scientific and practical developments are connected with fundamental and applied researches of the mixing and combustion processes in promising domestic automotive-tractor internal combustion engines, engineering and technological design of combustion engines, during fuel switching; researches in the field of the formation of the corundum layer on the surfaces of the pistons.

Thanks to A. P. Marchenko’s efforts, his author’s participation and teaching and methodical activities a six-volume textbook «Internal Combustion Engines» with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was published in 2004 year. It was designed for specialists training in the field of «Internal Combustion Engines» and the team of authors received State Prize of Ukraine in 2008.

A P. Marchenko is the author of 3 monographs, over 200 scientific works, the author of more than 50 inventions. Supervisor for 12 Candidate dissertations and 2 doctoral theses.
