Kurpa Lidiya Vasilievna — Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», Doctor of Engineering, Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics (1993).
Born in November 25, 1944 in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region.
From 1961 to 1966 she studied at the Berdiansk State Pedagogical Institute (now — the Berdiansk State Pedagogical University (BSPU). In 1966 she started her postgraduate study at the Kharkiv Institute of Radioelectronics.
After postgraduate school in 1969-1980 Lidiya Vasilievna worked as a senior lecturer at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. From 1980 to 1990 she held a position of a research assistant and later a leading researcher in the Applied Mathematics and Computational Methods Division at the A. N. Podgorny Institute for Mechanical Engineering Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 1990 L. V. Kurpa returned again to the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, where she continued her teaching and research activities.
In 1990 Lidiya Vasilievna defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic «Creation of R-functions-based methods and software for solving problems of bending, vibration and stability of thin-walled structural elements of complex shape».
From 1995 to present L. V. Kurpa has been heading the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Engineering and Physics Faculty of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».
Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1970).
Associate Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (1980).
Doctor of Engineering Sciences (1990).
Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics (1993).
Academician of the Higher School of Ukraine (2010).
Lidiya Vasilievna is an innovator in the development of a number of textbooks, including that ones in English. The first textbook edited by L. V. Kurpa contained the full course of higher mathematics and was published in 4 volumes. The material was presented both in Russian and in English.
Since 2004 Lidiya Vasilievna together with the professor of the department Yu.V. Mikhlin was an active organizer of 4 international conferences on nonlinear dynamics, which took place at NTU «KhPI».
L. V. Kurpa is a member of the specialized academic councils for doctoral and candidate theses and a member of the National Council on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of Ukraine, a full member of the Higher School Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The main areas of L. V. Krupa’s scientific research concern the development of effective methods for solving linear and geometrically nonlinear problems of the theory of shallow shells and plates of complex shape, including multilayered and functionally graded plates and shells.
Lidiya Vasilievna teaches courses: higher mathematics, mathematical analysis, linear algebra and analytic geometry, equations of mathematical physics, functional analysis, variational calculus and the theory of functions of a complex variable.
She is the author of about 250 scientific publications, 7 of which are monographs, 25 teaching aids.
