Grabchenko Anatoliy Ivanovich

Grabchenko Anatoliy Ivanovich is the representative of the Scientific School of Physics of Material Cutting Processes of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», Full Professor (1990), Doctor of Sciences (Engineering) (1995).

Born on November 1, 1935 in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region.

Graduated with honors from Mechanical Engineering faculty of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute in the specialty «Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metal-Cutting Machines and Tools» (1958). After graduation he worked at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. Held positions: Assistant, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of the Department of Material Cutting Processes and Cutting Tools.

Defended Ph.D. thesis «The Study of Diamond Grinding Process of Tool Materials» [Yssledovanye protsessa almaznoho shlyfovanyia ynstrumentalnыkh materyalov] (1966). Since 1967 — Associate Professor of the department, and since 1990 — Full Professor. Doctoral thesis «Scientific basis for diamond grinding of superhard polycrystalline materials» [Nauchnye osnovy almaznogo shlifovaniya sverkhtverdykh polikristallicheskikh materialov](1995).

For a long time from 1979 to 2017 — Head of the Department of Cutting Materials and Cutting Tools (now — the Department of Integrated Technologies of Mechanical Engineering named after M. F. Semko). He initiated the creation of: the first branch of NTU «KhPI» department at manufacture; faculty computer center. He organized fundamentally new lecture courses for training engineers in four new specialties: «High Technologies in Mechanical Engineering», «Superhard Materials and Processes of their Machining», «Management and Marketing of High Technologies», «Integrated Generative Technologies of Mechanical Engineering»

For many years Anatoliy Ivanovich headed the only one in the former USSR Problem Laboratory of Physics of cutting with the help of superhard material tools and the Branch Laboratory of Diamond Tools.

Anatoliy Ivanovich Grabchenko is an outstanding scientist in the field of materials cutting. His research interests include issues of mechanics and physics of high-precision cutting, combined grinding processes of poor-machinability materials; creation of superhard materials and use them in advanced constructions and technological processes; generative manufacturing techniques. He is the author of the theory of controlling the process of grinding superhard materials and the concept of three levels of generative technologies. The author of new methods of grinding treatment based on controlling of a working surface of grinding wheels. This scientific direction has opened up new technological possibilities for diamond grinding of poor-machinability materials

A. I. Grabchenko’s scientific developments have been implemented at many enterprises of Ukraine, Russia, Hungary and Germany, particular — at Poltava Diamond Plant; at the plant «Instrument» (St. Petersburg), at Csepel Machine Tool Factory (Budapest), at the University of Miskolc (Miskolc, Hungary), at University of Magdeburg (Germany), and etc.

A founder and Chairman of the International Program Committee of the annual scientific and technical workshop «High Technologies in Mechanical Engineering» (since 1990). Heads the organizing committee of the annual International Scientific-Practical Conference «MicroCAD». In addition, he is the member of the editorial board of a number of periodical scientific publications, for example, the international scientific and technical collection «Rezanie i instrument v tehnologicheskih sistemah» [Cutting and a tool in technological systems] published in 1966.

A. I. Grabchenko was frequently awarded honorary titles and awards for his fruitful work. Such as:

«Honored Worker of Higher School of the Ukrainian SSR» (1985);

Honorary Doctor (Honoris Causa), Honorary Professor of the University of Miskolc (Hungary, 1993);

Full member of the American Association of Mechanical Engineers and Technologists SME/AMT (1994);

A member of the Association of Machine-Building Technologists of Ukraine (1995);

An Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine (1995);

Honorary Professor, University of Petroșani (Romania, 1995);

A member of the International Special Tooling and Machining Association (ISTMA)

Honorary Doctor of Odessa National Polytechnic University, Donbass State Engineering Academy, National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (2005);

laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in science and technology (2008);

Honorary Professor of Zhytomyr State Technological University (2014).

In addition, he was awarded gold, silver and bronze medals of Vystavka Dostizheniy Narodnogo Khozyaystva (VDNKh, USSR) [the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy], medals «For the Development of Virgin Lands», «For Valiant Labor», the Big Gold Medal of the University of Miskolc (Hungary), Otto Von Gerike Medal of Honor (Magdeburg University, Germany), «Bakul Honorary Medal» (V.N. Bakul Institute for Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), the Medal of Honor of the Poznan University of Technology (Poland), certificates of honor from the Kharkiv Regional Administration and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, etc.

A. I. Grabchenko is the author of more than 350 scientific works, including 12 monographs, more than 70 copyright certificates and patents. Scientific supervisor for twenty Ph.D. theses and one doctoral dissertation.
