Primary tabs
Boiko Anatoliy Volodymyrovich is Head of the Department of Turbine Engineering of NTU «KhPI», Doctor of Technical Sciences (1984), and Professor (1984).
Anatoliy Volodymyrovich was born on August 22, 1939 in the town of Lokhvytsia, Poltava region.
In 1961 he graduated with honors from Power Machine Engineering Faculty of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (nowadays — NTU «KhPI») and stayed to work at the Department of Turbine Engineering. Held positions: Senior Research Engineer of the research laboratory (1966-1968), Senior Researcher Assistant of the Turbine Engineering Department of KhPI (1968-1969).
During 1964-1966 he was a post-graduate student of the Department of Turbine Engineering at KhPI. In 1967 he defended his Candidate’s thesis on the topic «Issledovaniye raboty stupeney parovykh turbin s malym vtulochnym otnosheniyem» [Investigation of the Operation of Stages of Steam Turbines with a Small Bushing Ratio].
In 1968–1969 completed a scientific traineeship in the United States, during which he published 2 scientific papers together with American scientists.
After returning to KhPI, Anatoliy Volodymyrovich conducted active scientific and pedagogical activity at the department (1969–1972), first as Senior Lecturer, and since 1972 as Associate Professor of the Turbine Engineering Department.
In 1983 he brilliantly defended Doctor’s thesis at Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School. Academic Council of Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School recognized his work as a new scientific direction in turbine engineering (optimal design of turbomachines). In 1984 Anatoliy Volodymyrovich Boiko received the title of Professor.
Simultaneously with his scientific activities, Anatoliy Volodymyrovich performed a lot of organizational work in the position of Vice-Recto for pedagogical work and international relations (1972—1985).
For fruitful work A. V. Boiko was awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1980), the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1985), and the USSR medals.
From 1985 to 1999 he worked as Director of Industry and Technology Department of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva (Switzerland). As Director of the UNECE Division, A. V. Boiko initiated, developed and implemented regional programs in the fields of science and technology, ferrous metallurgy, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, automation and standardization for states — the UNECE members.
For 14 years of A. V. Boiko’s work at the UNECE more than 40 international seminars were organized and held; 18 books under his editorship were published — analytical investigations on problems of the development of waste-free technologies in various branches of industry of states — the UNECE members.
In 1997 Anatoliy Volodymyrovich was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, became a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
When work at the United Nations was complete Boiko returned to his native University (2000) and headed the Department of Turbine Engineering. (2004) Since 2005, the department annually organizes and conducts All-Ukrainian scientific and technical conferences «Problems of energy saving and ways to solve them». The aerodynamic laboratory of the department has received state support — the status of a national heritage.
Scientific activity is devoted to the development and substantiation of the theoretical basis and methodology of a new scientific direction in turbine engineering — the optimal design of turbomachines.
As part of a team of scientists and industrial workers he was awarded the title of a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for the development of scientific basis principles of gas-dynamic improvement and the creation of highly efficient and reliable flow pats for steam turbines with a capacity of 200–1000 MW. (1992)
The key areas of Boiko’s scientific research are gas dynamics of turbomachines, optimal design of the flow part of turbomachines.
Teaches courses: gas dynamics, basics principles of the theory of optimal design of the flow part of axial turbines, basics principles of two and three-dimensional theory of optimal design of turbomachines.
Boiko Anatoliy Volodymyrovich is the author of 6 books: monographs, textbooks and manuals with the stamp of the Ministry of Education; about 150 scientific publications; 3 inventions. He is the Chairman and member of two specialized Dissertation Councils for a doctor's degree (at NTU «KhPI» and IPMash).
