Hevorkian Yurii Levonovych is Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».

He was born on May 9, 1945.

In 1968 he graduated from the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Kharkiv State University (now is V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University) majoring in «Mathematics», qualification — mathematician, teacher of mathematics. Apart from working, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on Geometry of Banach Spaces, which was highly appreciated by specialists.

In his dissertation, for the first time, the correct hypothesis for solving the Banach problem had been proposed, which was confirmed later.

Since 1975 — Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 1979 he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics.

Hevorkian Yurii Levonovych began teaching at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (now is National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute») as Assistant in 1968. In 1975–1977 — Senior Teacher, 1977–1987 — Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics; from 1987 to present — Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». In 2005 Yu. L. Hevorkian was awarded the academic rank of Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics.

Professor Yu. L. Hvorkian pays great attention to the development of modern educational and methodological literature to improve the quality of students’ independent work.

He has more than 30 methodological papers, including 16 training manuals, 10 teaching aids, and 3 textbooks written in co-authorship. Yu. L. Hevorkian is the author of 10 training manuals and the textbook with the visas of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, which are basic for training engineers in mathematics.

For many years Yu. L. Hevorkian has been conducting scientific research on mathematical modeling of physical processes using the equations of mathematical physics. The main areas of scientific research are functional analysis and geometry of Banach spaces.
