Fyk Illia Mykhailovych is Head of the Department of «Mineralogy, Petrography and Mineral Resources» of the V.N. Karazin Kharkov National University and Head of the Department «Oil, Gas and Condensate Production» of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», Doctor of Technical Science, Professor, Academician of the Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine.
Born in November 26, 1948 in Volyn in the town of Kivertsi in a family of workers. In school years he dreamt to become a geologist, keen on Regional ethnography and tourism. Took part in competition in hiking (where he got the first sports category in tourism).That’s why after finishing school in 1966, without hesitation he entered the Geological and Survey faculty of the Ivano-Frankivsk branch of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute. In 1971 he graduated with honors Ivano-Frankovsk Institute of Oil and Gas, in the specialty «Geophysical Methods of Prospecting and Exploration of Mineral Deposits». The young specialist’s job placement to the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gases became decisive in his destiny. In this labor collective Illia Mykhailovych started as an engineer and worked his way up to Director of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gases.
In 2007 Illia Mykhailovych was appointed to head the newly established Research and Design Institute of Gas Transport which is the branch of Subsidiary Сompany «Ukrtransgaz». In 2009 after retirement he held a position of a professor at the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute », where in 2010 he founded the new Department «Oil, Gas and Condensate Production» for training specialists in oil and gas production. Illia Mykhailovych holds the title of Senior Research Fellow in the Development of Oil and Gas Deposits, Head of the Department of Geology and Professor of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The main focus of I. M. Fyk’s activity is raw materials base preparation, transportation and underground storage of gas, design and estimate documentation for construction and innovative reconstruction of oil and gas production facilities.
I. M. Fyk’s scientific and industrial achievements concern the calculation of gas reserves; development of a petrophysical model of residual gas saturation of the formation; selecting of Ukrainian gas-condensate fields exploitation systems; development of new systems for increasing gas condensate release of hydrocarbons from the formation, gas pass systems and step-cycling process.
I. M. Fyk is the head and co-author of many projects on the development of gas and gas condensate fields of Ukraine, including Novotroitsk, Kotelevsk, Tymofiivsk and Kulychykhinsk, designed in the modes of the cycling process; the head and the author of projects for the fields development with hard-to-find reserves, in particular projects to increase gas and condensate production from the Shebelynka and Khrestyshche groups of fields.

Since 2011 Illia Mykhailovych Fyk has been concurrently headed applied scientific works at the «Karpatyhaz» company, which is in joint activity with Subsidiary Company «UkrGasVydobuvannya». His scientific works are aimed at increasing domestic natural gas and condensate production from Ukrainian fields. In the scientific heritage of the scientist there are more than 400 scientific works, including monographs, articles and author's certificates. I.M. Fuk has an active social position.
He was actively engaged in public activities as a scientific secretary of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gases, and as a member of the central commission for the development of oil and gas fields at the Ministry of Fuel and Energy and others. He is awarded the diploma of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy, has the title of Honored Worker of the Oil and Gas Industry and others. I. M. Fyk together with his wife Larysa Borysivna (a teacher by profession) have brought up two sons: the elder son — Oleksandr, Candidate of Technical Sciences, a colonel and the younger son — Mykhailo, Candidate of Technical Sciences, works in the oil and gas field of industry. The greatest life goal of Illia Mykhailovych is the development of applied oil and gas science, increase of domestic hydrocarbon production in Ukraine and creative work for the benefit of the Ukrainian state.
