Primary tabs
November 17th is International Students' Day! We congratulate all Polytechnics on the holiday! We wish you peace, health, creativity and new achievements! We believe in the potential of our youth and the country's prosperity!
From the history:
The events in Prague preceded the origin of the holiday. On October 28, 1939 the police and SS units dispersed a peaceful demonstration on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Czechoslovak Republic. The result was the death of the medical student Jan Opletal. The funeral procession, held on November 15, turned into a protest against the occupation, which was attended by thousands of people. On November 17, there were mass arrests of Czech students in Prague and other university cities, followed by executions and imprisonment.
In 1941 in London the International Council of Students adopted a statement in which November 17 was declared as International Students' Day in memory of the events in the Czech Republic. Since then, international students have been promoting the idea of recognizing November 17 as International Students' Day at the United Nations level.
Nowadays International Student's Day is positioned not as a day of mourning, but as a celebration of youth, passion for life and great achievements. After all, the studentship at all times, in all countries, was an active, sometimes radical, driving force that could change the state system and make revolutions.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! PEACE AND GOODNESS!
