Born on April 22, 1953 in the city of Kharkiv. Aleksander Vyacheslavovich 's father — Yefimov Viacheslav Tykhonovych is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, founder and first head of the Department of Automation of Chemical Productions at NTU «KhPI», which he headed for 27 years.
Graduated from Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (nowdays — National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute»), majoring in turbine engineering (1976).
After graduating from the university, Alexander Vyacheslavovich worked as a Senior Researcher at the A. N. Podgorny Institute for Mechanical Engineering Problems (1976-1997). Since 1997 — Head of the Department of Steam Generator Engineering of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».
In 1982 A. V. Yefimov defended Ph.D. thesis «Issledovanie tehnologicheskih harakteristik i struktur turboustanovok AES metodami imitatsionnogo modelirovaniya» [Investigation of technological characteristics and structures of NPP turbines by simulation modeling]. In 1995 he defended his doctoral thesis «Sovershenstvovanie upravleniya tehnologicheskimi protsessami teploenergeticheskih ustanovok energoblokov elektrostantsiy na osnove analiza parametrov sostoyaniya i diagnostiki oborudovaniya» [Improving the control of technological processes of thermal power units of power plants based on the analysis of state parameters and equipment diagnostics]. Received the title of Professor in 2001.

Alexander Vyacheslavovich Yefimov is Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, Department of Power Engineering and Resource Saving (2004).
A. V. Yefimov is a well-known scientist in the field of thermal and nuclear power engineering, one of the most qualified specialists in mathematical modeling of complex thermal power systems in Ukraine. Under his leadership, a scientific school in the direction of optimizing the management of power units of thermal and nuclear power plants operates and successfully develops at the NTU «KhPI» Department of Steam Generator Engineering.
Alexander Vyacheslavovich has a high reputation as a scientist and specialist in universities and enterprises of Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Kuwait. About 40 scientific developments of A. V. Yefimov have been introduced into the energy industry of Ukraine and foreign countries. He supervises the research work of masters, post-graduate students and doctoral students. Under his supervision, 5 dissertations for the degree of candidate of technical sciences were defended by post-graduate students from Ukraine, Russia, and Kuwait. and 1 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertation is being prepared for defense.
For many years Professor A. V. Yefimov is a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine «Electrical Engineering and Energy»; a member of the on Energy Saving Commission at the Fuel and Energy Department of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration; member of 4 specialized academic councils for the defense of dissertations; a member of the Expert Commission on
Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; Deputy Chairman of the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the specialty «Energy»; Chairman of the Methodical Commission of the Methodical Council of NTU «KhPI» on scientific and technical creativity of students; a member of the editorial boards of many leading scientific editions of Ukraine.
In order to develop the scientific and technical potential of Kharkiv region in the field of nuclear energy, Professor A.V. Yefimov initiated the establishment of a branch of the Steam Generator Engineering Department at the National Scientific Center «Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology» of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NSC «KIPT» NASU) in 2001 and the launching of a new specialization «Reactors and Steam Generators of Nuclear Power Plants» at NTU «KhPI», which is especially important for the domestic nuclear power industry. He is Chairman of the State Examination Commission (SEC) for the defense of diploma projects in the specialty «Heat Power Engineering» at Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogical Academy.
The author of more than 160 scientific publications, including 3 monographs and 5 textbooks with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
