The foundations of geoinformational technologies and their use in the field of ecology and environmental protection are considered. The sources of obtaining environmental information, the main provisions and the structure of geographic information systems are described in detail. The basic concepts of creating geoinformational technologies are outlined. The information support of ecological mapping and ecological monitoring is characterized. Information about software tools of geoinformational technologies is given. Examples of modern GIS technologies in ecology are described.
