Usatyi Oleksandr Pavlovych is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher, Professor, Head of the Department of Turbine Construction of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».

O. P. Usatyi was born on December 17, 1952.

In 1987 he defended his thesis on the topic «Optimizatsiya mnogostupenchatyih otsekov TsVD moschnyih parovyih turbin» [Optimization of multistage HPC (high pressure cylinder) compartments of powerful steam turbines] and obtained the scientific degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences with the specialty 04.05.12 — «Turbomachines and turbo-installations».

In 2013 he received the scientific degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the specialty 05.05.16 — «Turbomachines and turbo-installations». Dissertation topic: «Vserezhymna bahatoparametrychna bahatokryterialna optymizatsiia protochnoi chastyny turbin v intehrovanomu informatsiinomu prostori» [All-mode multi-parameter multi-criteria optimization of turbines flow path in the integrated information space].

The field of scientific interests:

  • Optimal design of axial turbines:
  • Solving practical problems of multi-level, multi-parameter, multi-mode and multi-criteria optimization of axial turbines during their modernization and design.
  • Development of optimization methods for complex multi-level technical systems and objects.
  • Numerous studies of processes in multi-stage axial turbines taking into account operating modes with controlled and uncontrolled working fluid selections. Development of a complex of programs and a single integrated information space of CAD «Turboagregat».
  • Planning of computational and natural experiments; methods of experimental data processing.

Professor O. P. Usatyi teaches academic disciplines:

  • Fundamentals of turbine optimal design.
  • Fundamentals of two and three-dimensional theory of turbomachine optimal design.
  • Steam turbines.
  • Thermal calculations in turbomachines.
  • Variable modes of turbine.
  • Variable modes of steam turbines.

O. P. Usatyi's scientific heritage consists of more than 90 scientific and educational publications, including 6 patents and 2 monographs.

Professor O. P. Usatiy is the Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for the monograph «Stvorennia rotoriv turbin velykoi potuzhnosti» [The creation of high-power turbine rotors] (2019).
