Hryn Hryhorii Ivanovych is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Chemical Technology of Inorganic Substances, Catalysis and Ecology of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».
Born on August 1, 1951 in the village of Zaporizhzhia, Tokmak district, Zaporizhzhia region.
In 1974 he graduated from Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (now is National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», where he has been working since then: Assistant, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor, Vice-rector for Educational work (2002–2004), Vice-rector for Scientific and Pedagogical work (2004–2015), Professor of the Department of Chemical Technology of Inorganic Substances, Catalysis and Ecology (2015–present).
The main directions of Professor H. I. Hryn‘s scientific research are the development of theoretical foundations of chemical technologies; research and development of heterogeneous-catalytic processes of bound nitrogen technology, including catalysts, sorbents, with the aim of creating environmentally friendly and resource-saving chemical technologies of inorganic production; kinetics and catalysis in nitrogen fixation processes and, especially, oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen oxides, oxidative ammonolysis of methane to hydrogen cyanide, catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia and hydrogen; catalytic oxidation of NO to NO2 ; reduction of losses of platinum catalysts; industrial ecology; disposal of industrial catalysts.
Investigates the theoretical foundations of chemical technology, kinetics and catalysis of complex chemical processes (in particular, oxidative ammonolysis of methane), modeling of processes, industrial ecology problems. Develops technologies for hydrocyanic acid production, activation and regeneration of platinum catalysts, and precious metals utilization.
According to the results of scientific research, 10 monographs, 6 textbooks, 360 scientific works were published, and he is the owner of 60 author's certificates and patents. Four doctoral dissertations and sixteenth candidate’s dissertations were defended under his scientific supervision.
Professor H. I. Gryn is Laureate of the Soros Foundation prize of the International Soros Education Program in the Field of Exact Sciences (1995), member of the Expert Council of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1999–2005), Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council on Chemical Technologies of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine (2010), Assistant-consultant of the deputy to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (1999–2002), Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Specialized Academic Council, member of the University Academic Council (2001–2015), member of the editorial board of the magazine «Bulletin of NTU KhPI», member of the bureau of the Scientific Council on the problem of «Inorganic Chemistry» of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2007), Academician of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine (2015), Honorary Professor of the Ukrainian State Chemical and Technological University, etc.
Awarded the medal «For Valiant Labor» (1970), the order «Badge of Honour» (1985). Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2014).
