With Tolerance in the Heart

On December 1, 2021, the Scientific and Technical Library hosted an international remote scientific and practical seminar «With Tolerance in the Heart», which is held as part of the International Day of People with Disabilities (December 3, 2021) and as part of the All-Ukrainian campaign «16 Days against Violence». 

About 100 representatives of the library community and educators took part in the scientific and practical seminar, which confirms the relevance of the topic for society! Participants represented 38 academic institutions.

Geography of participants: Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Minsk (Belarus), Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Cherkasy, Uzhgorod, Pobuzke village, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Pereyaslav, Uman, Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, others.

The speakers of the seminar aimed to draw society's attention to the needs of people with special abilities and the necessity to be tolerant, to ensure unimpeded access to the information resources of the university library, to promote motivation for learning and self-realization.

«Barrier-free society is the guarantee of the living quality of people with disabilities», Zoryana Leniv, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education and Innovative Technologies of Vasyl Stefanyk Prycarpathian National University, Director of the LLC «International Institute of Inclusion», Honorary Member of «Ukrainian Association of Correctional Teachers», Head of the NGO «SMART-Person». Recommendations for teachers on organizing lectures and seminars for students with special educational needs.

«Components of the Inclusive Library Environment», Zoryana Udych, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor; Head of the Inclusive Resource Center of TNPU named after V. Hnatiuk; Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Management of Education of V. Hnatiuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University (TNPU).

«Fiction for supporting inclusive practices in libraries: methodology for compiling bibliographies», Olga Vovk, co-organizer of the project «Literature as Inclusion» (Belarus). 

«Information without barriers», Yuliia Hlavcheva, PhD (Computer Sciences), Director of the Scientific and Technical Library of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».

According to the results of the discussion, the organizers proposed to use the technical base of the NTU «KhPI» Scientific and Technical Library as a platform for exchanging information on this important topic (services for persons with special educational needs and inclusion).

• Possibilities of libraries and cooperation of university communities, communities of the city, the country, and the world on inclusion.
