«We are your children, Ukraine!»

Three months of martial law and war. From February 24, 2022 everything changed. It is difficult to understand and accept reality. It is very difficult for children to experience this. They need constant support from adults. In connection with this the Scientific and Technical Library has organized the socio-cultural action «We are Your Children, Ukraine!». The event is dedicated to International Children's Day, which is celebrated annually on June 1!

The employees of the Information and Resource Center «Without Barriers» and partners of the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU «KhPI» (the Charitable Organization «Paralelni svity», Association of Child and Family Psychologists of Ukraine) participate in the campaign.

We previously published information about volunteer psychological assistance children, who were hiding at Kharkiv metro stations (http://library.kpi.kharkov.ua/uk/node/19536), provided by the employees of the Information Resource Center «Without Barriers» together with the Charitable Organization «Paralelni svity» and the Foundation «Professional Development of Kharkiv» with support of UNICEF Ukraine. It’s hard work that requires endurance, professional knowledge and skills. More about a month underground on the UNICEF Ukraine website.

On May 13, 2022 volunteers from the library Svitlana Novosyolova and Natalya Lyabakh (презентація), took part in the Internet broadcasting the author’s program of Olena Ihorivna Horoshko (https://web.kpi.kharkov.ua/sp/goroshko-olena-igorivna/). The subject and title of the event was «Children in War». The goal was to tell the whole world the truth about how children experience the war and how adults try to support them psychologically and help them together with their parents to survive these difficult times (recording of the broadcast).

Reading books always helps maintain your mental health and spend time with benefit. Therefore, we welcome you to the media review of the children's book from the funds of the NTU «KhPI» Scientific and Technical Library — «I Open the World with a Book!».

The motto of the programme: if you want to help a child, help an adult who takes care of him.

ICDP is based on three dialogues, which include eight principles of positive interaction with the child:

  • Emotional dialogue (communication with a child at the level of emotions) includes such principles as: love, support of the initiative, communication with a child at the level of emotions, praise.
  • Mediation dialogue (transferring experience and knowledge to a child) combines such principles as focusing the child's attention on the objects of the surrounding world, giving meaning to the events of the surrounding world and the child's experience, and enhancing the child’s experience.
  • Regulatory dialogue includes issues of regulating behavior.

Facilitators of the International Child Development Programme provide comprehensive assistance and support families in building quality relationships with children, in harmonizing emotional, developmental and educational spheres of children's growing up in the family.
