Organizers: Information and resource center «Without Barriers» of the NTU «KhPI» Scientific and Technical Library, Pokotylivka library-branch for adults, Pokotylivka junior library.
The participants of the event travelled along Gregory Skovoroda’s path in the village of Babai, Kharkiv district, Kharkiv region and had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of their native land.
Head of the IRC (Inclusive Resource Center) «Without Barriers» Svitlana Novosyolova told about the International Day of Peace and the purpose of the Library Art Space project, within the framework of which the field seminar was held.
Today, peace in Ukraine is a conscious goal. The struggle for peaceful existence, for the right to live in own state continues. Today every Ukrainian family feels the highest value of peace, which is the key to a happy life. We inform about the restoration of cultural monuments, traditions, Ukrainian culture and tourism in Kharkiv region. Love of Ukraine unites our libraries users, encouraging them to visit cultural monuments and remember the traditions of the Ukrainian people.
Liudmyla Vasylivna Chechyna, Merited Culture Worker of Ukraine, made an interesting and informative report, told about reliable facts from G. S. Skovoroda’s biography related to the village of Babai.
Yuliia Fedorivna Samoilova, Head of Pokotylivka library-branch for adults, told about the life and art of outstanding Ukrainian educator, philosopher, and poet.
In G. Skovoroda’s biography, the village of Babai stands out among all the villages where the great philosopher lived during his travels.
From 1769 to 1774, he lived here in the house of the priest Yakiv Pravytskyi, his former student from Kharkiv Collegium. It was here that his 15 fables of 30 «Kharkiv Fables» and some philosophical works were written. Local landowner Petro Shcherbinin supported the philosopher in his difficult life, and Yakiv Pravytsky took care diligently of collecting G. Skovoroda's manuscripts.
Babai village dwellers rightfully consider their native village to be the birthplace of the Ukrainian fable, remember and carefully preserve the memory of outstanding person G. Skovoroda.
In the central square, near the Palace of Culture, a bust of Grigory Skovoroda was installed. The cultural and artistic event «Sad pisen Skovorody» took place every autumn, for more than ten years, in the picturesque forest, near the source of G.S. Skovoroda, where the Ukrainian philosopher had been learning the purpose of existence. People from all over Ukraine gathered here at «Pansky Grushnik» to listen to the 'soul music' of their native land.
«Sad pisen Skovorody» is a real celebration of modern musical folklore and poetic art, in which folk groups and bands, soloists, professional musicians and amateur performers from Kharkiv, Kharkiv region, and all of Ukraine participated.
Visitors listened to songs performed by Nina Matviienko People's Artist of Ukraine, famous bandurists Taras Kompanichenko and Petro Prystupov. The forest meadow in front of the stage was always filled with spectators who warmly greeted singers and heartily applauded. There was a poetry platform near Skovoroda well, where Ukrainian folk songs and songs based on G. S. Skovoroda's poems were performed by bandurists and young singers.
Traditionally, students of Arts Educational Schools of Kharkiv Region gathered for the plein-air painting, which took place near the Black Lake, and everyone could join them. Young artists inspired by Babai forest’s landscapes depicted their vision of the beauty of their native land in their canvases.
Masters of decorative and applied arts held master classes on pottery, carving, wicker weaving and others as part of the cultural and artistic event. In addition, all visitors had the opportunity to buy souvenirs produced by Ukrainian craftsmen and artists represented at the fair, and enjoy field porridge and beekeeping products.
Unfortunately, during the military aggression, this event isn’t held, but after the Victory, it will certainly delight everyone who loves and respects Ukraine. The revival of this event is necessary, because it demonstrates the beauty, traditions and culture of the Ukrainian people, proves that the spirit of Ukrainians is indestructible!
