Ukrainian Diplomacy Through the Lens of Women’s Experience

Kharkiv Polytechnic and the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU “KhPI” received a valuable gift from a university partner—the public organization “Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations”: publications devoted to the history of Ukrainian diplomacy and the role of women in the formation and development of Ukraine’s diplomatic service. The library’s collection has been enriched with the following books: “The Female Face of Ukrainian Diplomacy: Essays, Memoirs, Interviews,” “Women in Official and Public Diplomacy: Essays, Reflections, Interviews,” the textbook “Public Diplomacy,” and others.

The University and the Scientific and Technical Library express their gratitude to the Head of the NGO “Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations,” Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, compiler and editor of the publications, Iryna Matiash, as well as to the Society for the valuable donation. The public organization “Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations”, was founded in 2016. Its activities focus on promoting comprehensive research into the history of Ukrainian and global diplomacy, the formation and development of international relations, preserving and popularizing the traditions of the Ukrainian diplomatic and consular service and its interaction with foreign missions in Ukraine, fostering a positive image of Ukraine worldwide, and meeting the scholarly and informational needs of researchers in the history of diplomacy and international relations.

The donated books are presented at the exhibition “Ukrainian Diplomacy Through the Lens of Women’s Experience,” which was opened at the Scientific and Technical Library by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and International Education of NTU “KhPI,” Hennadii Khrypunov. He emphasized the importance of studying the history and traditions of Ukrainian diplomacy and enhancing the role of Ukrainian women in the diplomatic and consular service and in international relations.

The books were transferred to the library’s holdings by Nataliia Volosnikova, Head of the Department of General Economic Theory at NTU “KhPI,” PhD in Economics, Associate Professor. She noted the relevance of these publications for scholars, lecturers, researchers in diplomacy and international relations, as well as for students. Yuliia Hlavcheva, Director of the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU “KhPI,” and Olena Breslavets, Deputy Director, expressed their gratitude for the significant enrichment of the library collections and emphasized the importance of these editions for the university’s academic community and the educational process.   

Founded in 1885, the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU “KhPI”, holds more than 1.4 million items, including 20,000 publications from the 16th–20th centuries.. As of 2026, the institution’s repository contains over 76,000 digital documents, placing it second in the Transparent Ranking. The library provides access to the Scopus and Web of Science databases and combines the work of reading rooms with a curated support system for research activities.
