-
Department of "Labor Safety and Environmental Protection";
- Scientific and Technical Library.
Speaker of the lecture-presentation: Natalia Tverdokhlebova, Assoc. Prof. of the Dept. "Labor Safety and Environmental Protection"
(as declared by the International Labour Organization: "Safe work, healthy workplaces: Tackling psychosocial risks at work")
-
The psychosocial work environment is becoming a key factor in occupational health and safety: how work is designed, organized, and managed directly affects the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of workers across all economic sectors.
-
The scale of the problem is critical: psychosocial risks at work are associated with more than 840,000 deaths annually worldwide, primarily due to cardiovascular diseases and mental disorders, creating significant social and economic losses.
- Changes in the world of work are exacerbating psychosocial risks: digitalization, new forms of employment, demographic shifts, and climate factors intensify the significance of the psychosocial work environment and require new approaches to labor management.
- Safe and healthy working conditions are a fundamental right: they do not arise automatically but require purposeful policy, responsible management, and respect for human dignity in the workplace.
- Prevention is more important than reacting to consequences: work with reasonable demands, clear roles, proper support, and opportunities for employee participation promotes better human health and sustainable organizational efficiency.
- Joint responsibility of all parties: governments, employers, and workers must act together — through legislation, occupational safety systems, responsible leadership, and social dialogue — to prevent psychosocial risks.
- Focus on social justice and decent work: creating a healthy psychosocial work environment is the foundation of the ILO's vision for decent work, successful enterprises, and more equitable societies in 2026.
