Primary tabs
The sun is already shining in the sky,
Maslyana greets everyone.
May prosperity come to your home,
so that there is something to celebrate!
On February 19, 2026, a thematic evening “Maslyana” from the cycle “Customs and Rituals of Ukrainian Culture” took place at the Public Library of the Vysochanska Settlement Council for internally displaced persons.
Surely, nothing unites people from different corners of our vast planet like holidays. Maslyana is one of the oldest Slavic holidays.
The celebration of Maslyana dates back to ancient times and has pagan roots. The ancient Slavs said goodbye to winter and performed rituals that ensured well‑being and fertility. These rituals were dedicated to the female deity Lada, who, according to the ancients, bestowed life, prosperity, and abundance.
This delicious and incredibly hearty holiday lasts an entire week preceding the beginning of Great Lent. The holiday is celebrated loudly with pancakes and songs.
The creative team of polytechnic members also prepared for the celebration to greet readers who came to meet Maslyana and bid farewell to the long winter. The library was visited by: the head of the Art-International 'Unity' Center of the Students’ Palace of NTU “KhPI”, laureate of international competitions Halyna Volchenko; the Deputy Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Chemical Technologies and Engineering Serhii Bykanov; and the Head of the Cultural and Educational Work Department of the Scientific and Technical Library Lidiia Bondarenko.Traditionally, the event concluded with a festive table full of assorted pancakes, pies, treats, and sweets...
We wish you a happy Maslyana and a sunny mood! May your life be filled with as much light and warmth as this ancient holiday symbolizes!
