Primary tabs
A book exhibition titled "Anatolii Ivanovych Grabchenko. On the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of an Outstanding Scientist and Talented Educator" is presented in November 2025 at the Scientific and Technical Library (Library, Lending Department No. 1, Room 45).Anatolii Ivanovych Grabchenko (November 1, 1935 – June 19, 2022) was a prominent scientist in the field of metal cutting, a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, a talented educator, organizer, and leader.
He was born on November 1, 1935, in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. In 1958, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. After graduation, he worked as an
assistant, senior lecturer, and associate professor at the Department of Material Cutting and Cutting Tools. In 1966, he defended his PhD dissertation. In 1979, he was elected head of the Department of Material Cutting and Cutting Tools (now the Department of Integrated Technologies of Mechanical Engineering named after M. F. Semko), which he led until 2017. In 1995, he defended his doctoral dissertation in technical sciences.

Professor Grabchenko’s scientific interests included the mechanics and physics of high-precision cutting, combined grinding processes for hard-to-machine materials, the development of superhard materials, and their application in advanced designs and technological processes. He developed new grinding methods based on controlling the working surface of grinding wheels. This scientific direction opened new technological possibilities for diamond grinding of hard-to-machine materials.
He authored nearly 500 scientific publications in domestic and international journals, about twenty monographs, textbooks, and teaching aids, and nearly a hundred inventor’s certificates and patents. Under his direct supervision, 20 PhD and 7 doctoral dissertations were defended. As head of the Department of Integrated Technologies of Mechanical Engineering named after M. F. Semko, Anatolii Ivanovych actively worked as both a teacher and an organizer of the educational process. He initiated the creation of the first department branch at a production facility within NTU "KhPI", the establishment of a computing center, the introduction of fundamentally new lecture courses, and the training of engineers in four new specialties.
Anatolii Ivanovych Grabchenko’s work was recognized with numerous medals, awards, and honorary titles, including laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, "Honored Worker of Higher Education of Ukraine", honorary doctor of the University of Miskolc (Hungary), the University of Petroșani (Romania), as well as Odesa and Zhytomyr Technical Universities, among others. He not only recognized emerging trends but also actively participated in testing new directions of development. His authority and persistent work ensured successful collaboration among scientific schools in the field of mechanical engineering technologies across many European countries. Joint research was conducted with scientists from Austria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Poland, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, and others. In 2018, an international conference was named in his honor — "Grabchenko’s International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Processes", with its proceedings published by Springer and indexed in the Scopus scientometric database.

Anatolii Ivanovych passed away on June 19, 2022.
We invite everyone interested to explore the works of Anatolii Ivanovych Grabchenko at the Scientific and Technical Library (Library, Lending Department No. 1, Room 45).
